Story Summary: Angel goes to see Buffy now that she is married to Riley
and sees that she is not happy.
Authors Note 1: This is a new series for me. "The Initiative" never
took place and this happens in the year 2005.
Authors Note 2: For all my new floormates and my brother < who now
can stop nagging me > who are huge B/A shippers, so it gets to be quite lonely being the only B/S
shipper on the floor. I'm sick, so be nice.
Feedback: Constructive Criticism welcome, Flames are not.
Take one moment of time away, what it would be someone asked me. I saw her today for the first time in over five years. She looked like a sad puppy dog. Something in her eyes had gone out.
Buffy doesn't love Riley. I know that deep in her heart, she has feelings for me. The way she looked at me was full of longing. Cordelia says that I shouldn't have gone. All I did was cause Buffy more pain. Wesley says that I should go to her and tell her how much I care.
Cordelia and Wesley, who would have thought that those two would have been married. As different as night and day, yet when you see them together, it's like nothing else matters. They only have eyes for one another.
They got married a year ago. I was Wesley's best man and Cordelia got her friend, Sasha to be her maid of honor. Cordelia made a beautiful bride. They had an outdoor wedding. In a way, I wish that had been me and Buffy. That never happened because of my stupidity.
When I knocked on her door, things became tense between us. What makes it worse is that me and Riley can't stand one another? Riley is a sniveling little coward who doesn't deserve her. Yet she is married to the guy.
Personally, I want her and have to see her again. Seeing her once was bad enough, but that made me realize I need my Buffy.
"Hello, I'm coming." Her sweet voice echoed as she opened the door towel drying her hair.
"Hi, Buffy. I heard you were in town." That was the first thing I said to her.
"Come on in Angel, let me get change into something more comfortable. It's good to see you." Buffy curved her beautiful lips into a smile that made me feel weak in the knees.
A few minutes later she came out in an old pair of jeans and t-shirt. The way evcerything fit her, made her all the more appealing.
"Why are you really here, Angel?" She asked me so bluntly that it took me by surprised.
"I needed to see you, Buffy. It's been so long since we've talked." Knowing that Buffy would blame me for the whole Kate scenario a few years back.
"We know the reason why, you left because you didn't want me. You were selfish. I only wanted to be with you and it hurts that we could never be together." Tears came to her eyes. I realized that this wasn't such a good idea, when he came in.
"Buffy, sweetheart, why didn't you tell me we were having company. I'm Riley and you are...?" Riley asked me smugly. I hated his patronizing attitude towards the woman I loved.
"Angel, an old high school buddy of Buffy's." Extending my hand out to her husband, who seemed to be more interested in his home.
"Nice to meet you. Buffy, is dinner ready, yet?" He asked her like she was his slave.
"Riley, let's go out to eat. Would you like to join us, Angel?" Her eyes were pleading for me to join her, but I said the wrong thing,
"Normally I would love to you, but I'm working on a big case." Lying to her sweet face. I knew that if I stayed there, that there would be trouble.
I can't shake the feeling that her marriage is not solid, but shaky. Buffy, what am I going to do. These last few years have been so empty without you. The last thing I want for you is to hate me. Hate me for breaking up my marriage.
"Just go after and tell her the truth, Angel. God, watching you mope over is her is not doing you any good. Besides, if she isn't happy, you need to find out the reason." Cordelia voice's said as she came to the office.
"Any particular reason you came to the office, Cordelia." Angel asked his friend.
"Wesley wanted me to check in on you as he is off investigating a lead on the whatever you call it, to see if you are okay." Cordelia told me. Deep down, she was concerned for him.
"I'm fine, Cordelia. Go home and relax." I told her.
As she left the office, I realized that I wanted to be as happy as she was. Buffy was unhappy, and he intended to find out the reason.
To be continued in another installment.
